Home > About Wordbuffs

Off late, my visits to bookshops have been leaving me lighter - both in my wallet and my shopping bag! While the choice of books available is better than ever before, their prices have also increased substantially. In a recent foray when I regretfully decided against buying a book I thought was too expensive, I got thinking how nice it would be to be able to read books without having to necessarily buy them... and the seeds of Wordbuffs were sown.

At Wordbuffs, we believe there should be no limits for book lovers. They should be able to read as many and as diverse a range of books as possible, without having to necessarily buy them. That's the idea behind the Bookswap – which allows Wordbuffs to swap books on their bookshelves with those in our Library.

For us the pleasure of developing Wordbuffs multiplied a hundred-fold when the website began to take shape online, and our library shelves actually began to brim with books unread. We owe a debt of gratitude to all the people who made this possible.

Pooja, our incredible programmer tops the list. Her patience with our severe lack of technological expertise and a dangerous penchant for changing everything we'd once agreed on, should get her the Nobel Peace Prize at the very least! She also put us in touch with Abhay, our web designer who disconcerted us by lapsing into Japanese when we disagreed on something. A big thanks to Mahima, who's done more sundry odd jobs on the site than a mundu does in a dhaba.

Then there are all the people who have generously donated books to us. BK Mathur allowed me to raid his entire library, where we found letters from people long gone, forty-year-old bus tickets and photographs that he has used over the last fifty years as bookmarks. Sonali Bourne sent across a huge box of fantastic fiction for young adults that her daughters had outgrown. Monisha N Singh sent us her entire collection of pulp fiction with a heavy heart but a considerably cleaner cupboard... There are too many other people to thank individually, but they know who they are. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts, and dedicate this site to them.
